As a psychiatrist, I am trained both to prescribe medication and to provide psychotherapy. The experience of taking medication affects the experience of psychotherapy and vice versa. Medication and therapy are often most effective when they inform each other. Attending to both within the same relationship allows for a more integrated understanding of you and your care. Instead of multiple treatments with multiple clinicians, there is just one coherent treatment.
I use multiple evidence-based therapy modalities and work collaboratively with patients to determine which approach best fits their needs and goals. The types of psychotherapy offered include
Intensive Short-Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) A focused, evidence-based approach that works through focsuing on the emotions and anxiety driving symptoms, often in less time than traditional therapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Explores the unconscious patterns and relational dynamics underlying symptoms
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Skills-based treatment focused on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior
Supportive Psychotherapy Builds resilience and strengthens coping by offering validation, encouragement, and a steady therapeutic relationship during periods of stress or transition
Collaborative, evidence-based medication prescribing and deprescribing, in collaboration with psychotherapists as needed
ADHD Evaluations
Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for adolescents and adults, including clinical interview, relevant history, and rating scales. Includes feedback and discussion of next steps
